Kate was found in Kona, in an area with lava rock sink holes, when a hiker heard cries from a hole in the ground. Looking in, he saw two yellow eyes looking back. Kate had fallen into the hole and was unable to get out. Sadly, her mother had to leave her. Amazingly, when she was pulled out, she was (physically) ok, hence we call her "Amazing Kate".
