about the sanctuary
Magical Creatures is a nonprofit farm animal rescue and sanctuary located on Hawaii's Big Island. We were founded in 2018 and are now home to over 85 animals who were saved from slaughter, rescued from neglect, have special needs, or were orphaned or injured in the wild.
what we do
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and offer lifelong sanctuary to animals on the Big Island while serving the Hawaiian community with programs that promote kindness, compassion, and stewardship. Magical Creatures Sanctuary provides lifelong care to the animals we rescue. Though we are not an open-intake sanctuary, we do everything we can to ensure that injured, neglected, or lost farmed animals can find peace with us and live the rest of their lives with dignity.
We also extend our reach through education, advocacy, and collaboration. Change starts within the community, and we are grateful for the opportunity we have to share our residents' stories and inspire others to live more compassionately. We are helping stop the cycle of farmed animal abuse by educating others and advocating for animals every chance we get.
who we are
Magical Creatures is an entirely volunteer-run organization and we are privileged to have an extraordinarily dedicated team. The sanctuary was founded by our Executive Director, Helena Lundblad, in 2018. When she and her husband Mathias moved to Hawaii in 2016, they had no intention of creating an animal sanctuary. But an unexpected opportunity arose for Helena to bring together her many passions and focus her energy on the welfare of farmed animals. The sanctuary has grown with a wonderfully collaborative and dedicated group of volunteers who always put our residents first.
